Abey Earl Dabney's Obituary

Adrian Earl Abey Dabney, 77, widower of Doris May (Baber) Dabney, of 1212 Ashby Street, Staunton passed away Saturday evening (April 17, 2010) in the Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mr. Dabney was born February 12, 1933 in Staunton a son of the late Eugene Huntsberry and Daisy Mae (Yeago) Dabney.
Abey was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed boating on the lake with his family, he was an avid golfer before declining health and he loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren watching them in their sports. Prior to his employment with the Valley Community Services Board as maintenance supervisor, Abey was a self-employed contractor and drove a tractor and trailer for various trucking companies.
Mr. Dabney was known for his friendly personality, his willingness to help others and his eagerness to tell and share a good joke with his family and many friends.
In addition to his parents and his wife to whom he married on April 6, 1958, Mr. Dabney was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene H. Jake Dabney and a sister, Mrs. Mary Virginia McClung.
Abey was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving are three sons and a daughter-in-law, Adrian Eugene Buck Dabney and his wife Jean of Fredericksburg, Stuart Baber Dabney of Florence, S.C. and David Gibson Dabney of Staunton; five grandchildren whom he so dearly loved, Thomas S., Dalton G., Miles D., Erika L., and Sarah E. Dabney; his special nieces, Debbie Arnold and her husband Sam of Fort Defiance; his friends and companion in his later years, Mrs. Ann Whitmeyer and special pet dog Shadow
A memorial service will be conducted 7:00 p.m. this evening (April 20, 2010) in the Memorial Baptist Church by Pastor Temple D. Myers. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, (April 21, 2010) in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Vick Knicely, Jerry Thomas, Radar Dod, II, Mark Wood, Wes Prein and Bill McClung.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mark and Jeff Bowles, Bret Ritchie, Keith and Eric Piner, Douglas Sheets, Douglas Harvey, Steve and Robert Byrd and Bill Bowman.
