IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janet Kathryn
(Cash) Guynn
May 10, 1946 – January 6, 2022
Janet Kathryn (Cash) Guynn, a faithful and loving wife to James Vaughn Guynn for over 53 years, and a devoted and caring mother to her two daughters, Jamise Kathryn Guynn Ferguson and Jacquelyn Vaughn Guynn Ballough, now rests in heaven with her parents, Charles and Juanita Cash.
Her grandchildren, Jay, Ella, Abby, and Joseph Ferguson and Ethan Ballough, have been her delight since their birth. "GranJan," as she was known by them, has left a legacy of memories by investing her time playing board games, making delicious meals, going on fun family vacations, taking walks on the beach, boating, and sending notes of encouragement. Everyone's favorite memory was the Disney cruise commemorating GranJan and Grandaddy's 50th wedding anniversary! Her love, hospitality, and gift-giving brought numerous smiles to their faces as well as to her sons-in-laws, Scott Ferguson and Bill Ballough. All love her dearly and hope to carry the footprint she left behind.
Most importantly, Janet has left a heritage of faith in Jesus Christ. He is the crux to her character and love for her family and friends. She taught her daughters to love and fear the Lord at an early age by praying with them every night before bed and at each meal, teaching Sunday school at church, and working alongside her husband with the youth. For fifty years, Covenant Presbyterian Church has been her home of worship and service to the LORD. The Presbyterian Women in the Presbyterian Church USA presented Janet with an Honorary Life Membership in May of 2021. This honor brought her much joy.
Janet left an imprint on the minds of her students as well. From the time she received her Bachelor's in education from James Madison College, she never stopped teaching. Whether it was helping her daughters or grandchildren with their studies or tutoring children in her home at night, she taught math from the elementary level all the way to the collegiate level, being a professor of mathematics at Blue Ridge Community College. Her love for learning infected those around her. One previous student recently recounted, "Miss Guynn, you said something that always stuck with me, 'You can't study math, you have to practice it.'" Her wise teaching spurred her students to action by emphasizing important truths.
Janet leaves a legacy of love, faith, and hope. She lived a life blessed by God and is now rejoicing in His presence. "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
