Bertie Marie (Smith) Kirby, 86, widow of Forrest G. Kirby of 1410 North Augusta Street passed away Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Kings Daughters Community Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Kirby was born January 29, 1926 in Staunton, a daughter of the late Charlie A. and Nancy E. (Mitchell) Smith.
Mrs. Kirby was retired from Best Western where she worked as a waitress and attended Salem Lutheran Church.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Roger D. Kurtz; three brothers, Earl, Harry and Adam Smith and five sisters, Pearl Moore, Mary Moore, Martha Dodson, Clara Driver and Anna Mae Clatterbaugh.
Survivors are two sons, Dennis A. Kurtz and his wife Janice of Missouri and Steven M. Belvin and his wife Lynn of Ruckersville; a daughter, Sherry B. Ocheltree and her husband Douglas of Mt. Sidney; a sister, Elizabeth Lilly of Staunton; a daughter-in-law, Darlene Kurtz of Little Rock, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Nicole Ochletree of Staunton, Sharon Belvin of Ruckersville, Sara Belvin of Harrisonburg, Annette Jones and Bonnie Kurtz of Arizona, Dale Kurtz and Cheryl Soules of Colorado; eight great grandchildren; three great greatgrandchildren also survive.
A Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 15, 2012 in the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church at Mt. Sidney by Rev. Christopher D. Carr.
Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Attn: Building Fund, 417 Salem Church Road, Mt. Sidney VA 24467 or Legacy Hospice, 17 Parkway Lane, Fishersville VA 22939.
A special thanks to the doctors and staff of Kings Daughters and Legacy Hospice for their loving support and care given to Mrs. Kirby’s during her illness.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
