Floyd E. "Chip" Foster III, 61, of Staunton, VA, passed away from an unexpected heart attack Friday, February 17, 2012, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia.
Born March 12, 1950, in Richmond, VA, he was the son of the late Floyd Eugene Foster, Jr. and Joyce Agnor Foster.
Chip graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1975, where he majored in Biology. He went on to earn his CIC, CPCU and later co-founded Hammond and Foster Insurance in Staunton, VA, where he served his community for nearly 25 years. Most recently, he was an agent for Bankers Insurance.
In 1978, he married Marilou Oglesby Snodgrass of Lake Ronkonkoma, NY, and they had two children, Reed and Meredith Foster.
Chip lived a very active life. Everything he did, he did to the fullest, whether it was riding his Harley around the country too many times to count, earning his black belt or spending countless hours hunting in the outdoors.
As a prominent member of his community, Chip served with the Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad for over 10 years, giving back to those who were in need. He loved helping others and always put their needs in front of his own. Chip's life centered around his family, friends, church and community. He provided endless guidance and mentorship to those around him. Most importantly, Chip will be remembered as a friend to all.
In addition to his parents, Chip was predeceased by his sister, Jane Brugh Foster. He is survived by his wife, Marilou Oglesby Snodgrass Foster of Staunton; his children, son Reed Foster of Virginia Beach, VA, and daughter Meredith Foster of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters Joan Foster Hubbard of Atlanta, GA; Natalie Foster McNiel and husband John from Richmond, VA; and 7 nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Coffman Funeral Home 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, VA 24401. A private burial service will be held for the family at the graveside. A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 23 at 3:30 p.m. at Staunton Grace Covenant Church, 410 West Beverley Street, Staunton, VA 24401.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad at 1601 N. Coalter Street, Staunton, VA, or a charity of your choice.
Coffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
