Biography

Douglas Laverne “Doug” Bercume, Sr., 71, husband of Carol J. Bercume of 1199 Port Republic Road, Harrisonburg, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010 in the Veterans Hospital in Martinsburg, WV.
Mr. Bercume was born August 2, 1938 in Antwerp, NY, a son of the late Andrew Joseph and Mae Cecilia (Imerson) Bercume.
Mr. Bercume was a security guard for Central Security in Harrisonburg; he enjoyed fishing, gardening and cooking.
In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by a two sisters, Joan Monroe and Nancy Bercume.
In addition to his wife Carol, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas L. Bercume, Jr. and his wife Kimberly of Cartersville, GA; a daughter, Heather M. Thelen and her friend, William Heaslip of Staunton; a sister, Beverly West of Spokane, WA; four grandchildren, Charolette VanNatta, Richard Likness, Alexandra Brown and Dakota Bercume; and one step-grandchild, Skyla Calhoun; a number of nieces and nephews, also survive.
A Memorial service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends following the service.
