Obituary for Roy Robert Rotenberry

Roy Robert Rotenberry, 87, of Staunton, Virginia died peacefully at his home on Thursday, August 30, 2018 after a long, hard fought battle with cancer and congestive heart failure.
Roy was born on August 29, 1931 on the banks of the Holston River in Southwest Virginia, the son of the late Callie and the late Hugh Rotenberry. He graduated from Fairfax High School, Class of 1949.
After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served with the Seabees during the Korean War as a construction electrician. He retired to the Staunton area in the late 1980’s. Not satisfied with being a retiree, he owned several farms in Augusta County, Virginia, including Barterbrook Manor Farm.
He and his late wife, Edith Mills Rotenberry, were members of Lions Club International. Roy was a Past District Governor with the Lions and served in many capacities with the local clubs for well over 40 years.
Preceding him in death was his wife of 54 years, Edith Mills Rotenberry, on February 17, 2005 and oldest son William “Billy” Rotenberry, on June 11, 1991. Mr. Rotenberry was one of nine children and was preceded in death by a sister Elsie Norman, a sister Ruby Pace, a sister Katherine Thompson, a sister Nancy Chappell Knable, and a brother Ernest Rotenberry.
