Obituary for Donald Ray Miller

Donald Ray Miller, 73, husband of Lena Lou (Varner) Miller, of 3548 Morris Mill Road, passed away Friday, April 13, 2018 at his residence.
Mr. Miller was born on July 26, 1944 in Staunton, a son of the late Walter Nicholas Jr. and Dorothy (Downs) Miller.
Donald was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and he was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving from 1965-1967. He was a self-employed truck driver formerly driving for a number of companies, including Thurston and Fleming Trucking Inc. Donald was a life member of the NRA, he enjoyed fishing and turkey hunting. He and his wife enjoyed their Highland County camp and going to the “gorge.” They rode motorcycles and camped in various special places. Donald will be remembered most for generously tinkering on things for his friends and family. “He enjoyed visiting with his friends and had a deep love for his animals.”
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Miller.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife of 51 years is a son, Michael Shane Miller of Minnesota; three grandchildren, Kaylee, Chelsea, and Evan; two great-grandchildren, Jace and Alexa; a brother, Walter “Nick” Miller, III; five sisters-in-law, Betty White, Maxine Dever and her husband Jaret, Jo Ann Hull and her husband Allan, Carol Varner and her companion Cathy Carpenter, and Ruth Varner and her companion Todd Carter; special friends, Dale Driver, Devona and Ron Rexrode, Phil Fauver, and Dicky Hottel, all of Staunton, and Frank Napier of Nellysford; numerous extended family and friends also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2018 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Memorial Service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2018 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Todd Yoder.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to The National Rifle Association of America, 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, Virginia 22030 or the Staunton Augusta Regional S.P.C.A., 33 Archery Lane, P.O. Box 2014, Staunton, Virginia 24401.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of his arrangements.
